Full of Awesome!

How much do you love this post?  I stumbled upon it over on Pigtail Pals.  I think it can also apply to our boys, as they should always feel awesome too.

There was a time when you were five years old,
and you woke up full of awesome.
You knew you were awesome.
You loved yourself.
You thought you were beautiful,
even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers.
You loved your body, and the things it could do.
You thought you were strong.
You knew you were smart.

Do you still have it?
The awesome.
Did someone take it from you?
Did you let them?
Did you hand it over, because someone told you, you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough?
Why the hell would you listen to them?
Did you consider they might be full of shit?
Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model?
Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold?
Are you freaking kidding me?
Look at her. She is full of awesome.
You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back.
All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.

what are you going to do next?

where: forward to Julie and Julia

I love this!
Doesn't it inspire you to reinvent yourself?
How exciting it is to learn something new and be great at it, and to love it.
To find something that is yours, that keeps you inspired and keeps you young.
Reinvention is the key to life, right?  Otherwise we risk becoming stale, or God forbid, boring.
I've been thinking about my reinvention.
As a 41 year old mother of three, I'm so excited to see what I come up with.

By the way, have you been to the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.?  It's so fantastic.  Jeremy and I were there a year ago and here's Julia Child's kitchen, one of my favorite exhibits.

inspiration boards

where: Jason Wu found on Habitually Chic
How fabulous they are!  I love looking at the boards of fascinating people like
Diane von Furstenberg to see what inspires them.  I used to sit for hours designing collages, using images and quotes of what inspired me.  Who knew there was a word for what I was doing and that fabulously creative people were doing it everyday?!

Working at Martha Stewart Living for the brief period I did right before Jack was born, I saw incredible inspiration boards scattered throughout the company.  One covered an entire wall and I remember thinking how I wish I had my own office to do that.
I'm still wishing for my own office (at home now) and would love to cover a wall with all things that inspire me.  For now though, I have my modest, yet very well respected (by me) inspiration book.
It has completely random things but all of it inspires me whenever I open it up.
Take a peak at what's inside.
Someone's desk.  Love it.
This was a tiny den in a house where we stayed for my cousin's wedding.
It was such a great room.

My inspiration to go for the third, since they have seven kids
and look full of life.

 Her style.

 Need I say more?

This was a list I created at that house that had the great den.
There were so many fabulous things in the house, I had to write them down.
Starting with her stationary...Grey Goose was the name of the house.  Isn't that fun?!

Pull-outs that inspire and give good advice.

My girlfriend Rachel's list of great garden books.

Finding happiness in Paris.  Oh yes please.

Resources.
 Flower arranging ideas.
Hostess gift ideas.

 I love his house.

 So chic here.

Entertaining ideas.

I just like it.

Do you have an inspiration book?  What's in it?

Sunday Styles

where: richard press

I've always been a huge fan of The New York Times Sunday Styles section - first thing I go for on Sundays.  So I was thrilled to read on Habitually Chic that the documentary Bill Cunningham New York was now available on DVD and on demand.  For those of you who are fans of The New York Times Sunday Styles section, you will be familiar with Bill Cunningham, the fashion photographer.  Not only for his On The Street column but also for his party photos.  Bill is an icon in the fashion circle.  He has such an eye for trends, often times spotting them and highlighting them in his column long before the fashion publications pick up on it.   Have you ever spotted him in his blue jacket riding around on his bike in the city?

I was dying to see the film when it came out this past Spring but of course it was only being shown in NYC.  One of the many things I miss about living in New York is access to art and events like this.  So I watched it last night and was not disappointed.  Linds, I know you are a fan of the Sunday Styles section, so you have to watch this documentary.  He is an amazing man, and a real character.  He lives a very, very simple life where his work is everything.  Let me know what you think!

All thumbs

I know I've posted about the Atlantic-Pacific blog before with the gorgeous Bee showing off her great sense of style and wardrobe.  But now I am obsessing over her thumb ring.  I never thought I was really a thumb ring type of girl, especially as a 41 year old mother of three,
but I may have to give it a try.  I think it's very chic.
Yes??
